He is an experienced public company executive officer and board member. He has served in executive management positions across the gaming technology arena. Over the course of Mr. Davey’s career, he oversaw more than ten mergers and acquisitions and over $1.2 billion in debt and equity capital raised to support the companies he has led. Most recently, Mr. Davey was Chief Executive Officer of SG Digital, the Digital Division of Scientific Games Corp. (“Scientific Games”) (Nasdaq: SGMS). SG Digital was established following the purchase by Scientific Games of NYX Gaming Group Limited (“NYX”) (formerly TSXV: NYX), where Mr. Davey served as Chief Executive Officer and Director. The NYX acquisition provided Scientific Games with a vehicle to significantly accelerate the scale and breadth of its existing digital gaming business, including the strategic expansion into sports betting. In his capacity as Chief Executive Officer of NYX, Mr. Davey developed and implemented a corporate strategy that generated strong revenue growth. Mr. Davey shaped company strategy to focus on digital gaming supplier platforms and content that provided various gaming operators with the underlying gaming and sports betting systems for their online gaming business. In 2014, Mr. Davey oversaw the initial public offering of NYX, and his experience in the digital media, sports, entertainment, leisure and gaming industries helped NYX recognize momentum as a public company. After the public offering, from 2014 to 2018, Mr. Davey oversaw seven acquisitions which helped establish NYX as one of the fastest growing global B2B real-money digital gaming and sports betting platforms. These acquisitions included: • OpenBet: In 2016, NYX completed the $385 million acquisition of OpenBet. This was one of the more complex and transformative acquisitions that Mr. Davey oversaw at NYX. Through securing co-investments from William Hill (LSE: WMH), Sky Betting & Gaming and The Stars Group (formerly Nasdaq: TSG, TSX: TSGI), Mr. Davey was able to get the acquisition from Vitruvian Partners completed successfully, winning the deal against much larger and well capitalized competitors. By combining two established and proven B2B betting and gaming suppliers, NYX was well positioned to provide customers with exciting player-driven solutions across all major product verticals and distribution channels. This allowed NYX to become the leading B2B omni-channel sportsbook platform in the market and the supplier to over 300 gaming operators globally with an extensive library of desktop and mobile game titles, including more than 700 on NYX platforms and more than 2,000 on the OpenBet platform. • Cryptologic/Chartwell: In 2015, NYX completed the $119 million acquisition of Cryptologic and Chartwell. The acquisition provided NYX with more than 400 titles of additional leading gaming content, a broader customer base, and direct exposure to PokerStars and Intercasino, part of the Gamesys Group (LSE: GYS) — two of the world’s largest online casino offerings. • OnGame: In 2014, NYX completed the distressed acquisition of OnGame, a premier poker content, platform and service provider. This acquisition provided NYX with one of the best poker products in the industry, access to several regulated jurisdictions, and a valuable talent pool that was instrumental in the growth of NYX. The addition of OnGame further established a path for NYX to continue its growth in both European and U.S. markets. These acquisitions, together with meaningful organic growth, increased NYX’s revenue from $24 million in 2014 to $184 million annualized in 2017. During that time, Mr. Davey helped build NYX to have over 200 customers in the global gaming industry and a team of 1,000 employees. Mr. Davey’s success at NYX ultimately led to its sale to Scientific Games for $631 million in 2018. Mr. Davey joined Next Gen Gaming, the predecessor to NYX, in 2000 as the Vice President of Technology, was appointed as Executive Director in 2003 and named Chief Executive Officer in 2005. Prior to that, he was the Senior Consultant for Access Systems, a company that specializes in the provision of back-end software for licensed online casinos. Prior to joining Access, Mr. Davey worked for the Northern Territory Government specializing in matters pertaining to the internet and e-commerce along with roles in the Department of Racing and Gaming. Mr. Davey received a Bachelor of Electrical & Electronic Engineering from Northern Territory University, Australia (also known as Charles Darwin University). Robin Chhabra — President Mr. Chhabra has been at the forefront of corporate acquisition activity within the digital gaming landscape for over a decade. His prior experience includes leading corporate strategy, M&A, and business development at two of the global leaders in the digital gaming industry, The Stars Group (“TSG”) and William Hill, and a leading supplier, Inspired Gaming Group (Nasdaq: INSE). Mr. Chhabra served on the Group Executive Committees of each of these companies. From 2017 to May 2020, Mr. Chhabra served as Chief Corporate Development Officer at TSG and, from 2019 to August 2020, he also served as the Chief Executive Officer of Fox Bet, a leading U.S. online gaming business which is the product of a landmark partnership between TSG and FOX Sports, a transaction which he led. During that period, Mr. Chhabra led several transactions which transformed TSG into the largest publicly listed online gambling operator in the world by both revenue and market capitalization and one of the most diversified from a product and geographic perspective with revenues of over $2.5 billion. Mr. Chhabra’s M&A experience is extensive and covers multiple global geographies across the digital gaming value chain and includes the following: • TSG/Flutter Entertainment Merger: In 2019, Mr. Chhabra led the TSG M&A team that was responsible for TSG’s $12.2 billion merger with Flutter Entertainment (LSE: FLTR). The merger between TSG and Flutter Entertainment is the largest transaction in the digital gaming industry to date. The combination created the largest publicly listed online gaming company with approximately 13 million active customers and leading product offerings, which include sports betting, online casino, fantasy sports and poker. The combined entity includes some of the world’s most iconic digital gaming brands such as Fanduel, Fox Bet, Sky Bet, PaddyPower, Betfair, PokerStars and SportsBet. TSG/Flutter Entertainment is one of the most geographically diverse digital gaming and media companies with leading positions in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Germany and Georgia. • TSG/Sky Betting and Gaming (“SBG”): In 2018, Mr. Chhabra led the acquisition of SBG from CVC Capital Partners and Sky plc, Europe’s largest media company, in a transaction valued at $4.7 billion. At the time of the acquisition SBG was the largest mobile gambling operator in the United Kingdom and one of the fastest growing of the major operators having doubled its online market share in three years. The acquisition of SBG provided TSG with (a) greater revenue diversification, significantly enhanced expertise and exposure to sports betting just ahead of the judicial overturn of The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) by the U.S. Supreme Court, (b) a leading position within the United Kingdom, the world’s largest regulated online gaming market, (c) improved products and technology as a result of the addition of SBG’s innovative casino and sports book offerings and a portfolio of popular mobile apps, and (d) expertise in deeply integrating sports betting with leading sports media companies, positioning TSG to create more engaging content, deliver faster growth and decrease customer acquisition costs. • William Hill (LSE: WMH): At William Hill, from 2010 to 2017, Mr. Chhabra served as Group Director of Strategy and Corporate Development where he led several transactions which contributed to William Hill’s transformation from a land-based gambling operator in the United Kingdom to a leading online-led international business. Mr. Chhabra led William Hill’s entry into the U.S. sports betting and online lottery markets with the acquisition of four businesses, including the simultaneous acquisitions of three U.S. sportsbooks, Cal Neva, American Wagering and Brandywine Bookmaking, in 2011 for an aggregate purchase price of $55 million. These businesses ultimately led William Hill to achieve a leading position in the U.S. sports betting market with a market share of 24% in 2019. Additionally, Mr. Chhabra played a key role in structuring William Hill’s successful joint venture with PlayTech Plc (LSE: PTEC) in 2008. The combined entity created one of the largest online gambling businesses in Europe at the time of its formation and led to William Hill’s buyout of Playtech’s interest for $637 million in 2013. Prior to the transaction, William Hill had struggled in its attempt to establish a strong online gaming platform and a meaningful presence outside the United Kingdom. Mr. Chhabra has also successfully completed four transactions worth over $1.2 billion in Australia, the world’s second largest regulated online gambling market, and various partnerships in Asia. Additionally, he completed several technology and media related transactions, including William Hill’s investment in NYX, where he worked with Mr. Davey on NYX’s transformational acquisition of OpenBet. Prior to working in the gaming sector, Mr. Chhabra was an equities analyst and a management consultant. Mr. Chhabra received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Alright, last week was the highest week ever that we have had in this pandemic with 26,799 cases. We believe that what this shows is the impact of holiday gatherings. <...>But holiday gatherings appear to have significantly increased the spread of the Coronavirus, and we also have Dr. Deborah Birx suggesting, and now we're hearing about a number of from different experts, that we believe that either the UK COVID mutation or another has hit the United States maybe as early as October, that more aggressively spreads the virus. And, in fact, I think I read today that Indiana, just identified its first case of this more aggressively spreading mutation of the Coronavirus. We have not identified it here in Kentucky<...>
Could we get your reaction to the petition for impeachment? Thank you so much. -- [...] The impeachment petition has zero grounds. It cites actions the Kentucky Supreme Court said were lawful. I understand the speaker's position that the law requires they form a committee but going anywhere on it would be trying to undo a valid election, mine, from a year ago, it would be eerily similar to other things we're seeing across the country. We don't need it, it shouldn't go anywhere, I don't anticipate it'll go anywhere. And I think that's one where everybody will rise above and put our democracy here in the state above four individuals who are upset.
With this spike that so many health leaders feared coming from the holidays happening, has there been any talk of new restrictions being put into place, and would they even really be effective considering we're hearing many of these cases are really coming from those family gatherings at homes? -- So we haven't had those discussions yet. We do believe that gatherings around the holiday, though they can happen in many different settings, have caused an increase what we need to see is, if that is a lasting increase that builds on itself, or is a bump from those one-time activities and then people go back to doing the right things. Because if they got together over the holidays, and that spread it, but since then have been wearing a mask and not gathering with other people and being real careful, then we could see this start to reduce and turn itself around.
Regarding the General Assembly bills that passed, which ones do you plan to veto? So, and of those that are overridden, which ones do you think will result will end up in a lawsuit? -- So, we'll review the text of each bill that is submitted to the office. Certainly any bill that I think will hamper our ability to effectively fight this virus we will veto. Any bill that we believe unconstitutionally removes emergency powers that are absolutely necessary to fight a pandemic like this, we would challenge in court. I don't think that's a surprise to anyone. And while that seems really really dramatic when it's on the news, that's the way that branches of government are supposed to resolve their disagreements. The other bills, we'll have to see, one by one, certainly don't think the bill about Franklin Circuit Court is constitutional. I think the Chief Justice testified to that and that's probably pretty telling.
Just one day after this rally yesterday someone vandalized Dr Stack’s home, spray painting “COVID is PCR fraud” on his mailbox. This wasn't about what was spray painted on the mailbox, this is about those individuals, those bullies, trying to create terror by saying we know where you live and we know how to get to you. We will not let that happen.
As our top public health official Dr Stack has stood strong in our fight against the coronavirus. Because of his work 1000s of people are alive today that wouldn't be. Whether you agree or disagree with the steps that ultimately I made the calls, trying to create fear in his family is the lowest form of low. To the cowards out there that did it, we're working to find you, it is not acceptable. This is not how we act in our society and in a democracy. And to anybody who believes that domestic terror is the way to go, we'll be ready for you, we will not back down. And to those that in their elected positions will use the words of hate, or anger, and we'll try to stir it up. Stop. Stop. Stop trying to claim elections are rigged, stop trying to claim that individuals were not elected, either this election, or a year ago. Stop it. We owe a duty to our jobs, we owe duties to the oaths that we have taken: to never fan the flames that spur these individuals and they are listening. We have a responsibility in everything that we do. So today I want to thank the real patriots, those that stand up to intimidation and bullying, that don't let these things like that vandalism, stop them from doing the right things. We’ve seen this type of action and activity, all over the country. I mean it was just six months or so ago that they went past all the impediments in front of the governor's mansion, fully armed right? They walked right up on the porch, the house and my family lives in, I know what a lot of individuals would think about people walking up on their porch and they tried to harass and demand I come outside. I wasn't even there. But to even interact with or suggest that this is okay? Nuh-uh. Right now we have a duty, an absolute duty, to restore the soul of our democracy and there can be no place for what we saw on Saturday or that attack we saw on Wednesday, for these types of bullying and anger tactics. No place, I believe in America. I know everybody else out there does too. Condemnation, it is never okay. You need, and I need you, to be very clear and making sure that this never happens again because there is zero support for those that would engage in this type of activity.
But I do want to talk a little bit about the CDC because in putting it in one of these bills I think it was recognized as the foremost experts that we ought to rely on. So a number of areas that our administration has been questioned on that CDC, I guess, is the foremost experts recognized at least in the bills that were passed, has a couple statements about things that I think are informative and can hopefully put some arguments to rest.
Let's go to the first one: their statements on restaurants and bars. As you all know, we've had to put restrictions in place, and we know they've hurt those businesses, but absolutely necessary to stop various waves of COVID-19, it's worked every time we've done it. There's been questions on whether it spreads in those types of facilities. So, this is from the CDC, again, from guidelines that at least under House Bill 1, if it goes into law, would become a part of law. So they say this “visiting bars and restaurants can increase your risk of getting and spreading COVID-19.” and then they provide evidence. “In a recent study scientists found that adults with positive COVID-19 test results were twice as likely to have reported dining at restaurants than those with negative COVID-19 test results.”. And they even go on to talk about the why, and I thought it would be informative for everybody to see and these are just very common things that we know, we know how the virus spreads and so any area that engages in the type of activity that can spread the virus, is unfortunately a place we got to be very careful with. That's not us as an administration, picking on anybody, it's where the virus spreads. And so these are the reasons that the CDC has found, and, in looking at their evidence from their study. First, that people from different households gather in the same space, and then to eat or drink you have to remove your mask. That is the preventative measure to keep it from spreading or to keep yourself from getting it. Ventilation flow, the way that it works indoors can further spread the virus. physical distancing, very difficult in restaurants and bars and you got to talk loud for people to hear you, which causes an increase in droplets. And then the last one, the use of alcohol may alter judgment and make it a little bit harder to follow all of those practices. So it's not this administration, that's the CDC, the foremost experts that were listed in House Bill 1 as their guidelines ought to be the legal standards.
Finally, on schools, and this is something that we've talked about a lot. The CDC guidance specifically talks about, if we want schools to be open and open safely, the locality in the state have to be able to take action to reduce community spread. Because if community spread is high enough, it can and it will get into those school buildings. And that requires us to not only have the right type of standards in place in schools, but also the surrounding community. In other words, if we don't have the authority and the flexibility to reduce cases of COVID-19 in a community, we can't make schools safe, which is what we all want to do.
So. takeaways are the director of the CDC, that’s the guy who runs it, says these shouldn't be written into law, they're not written that way and it won't work. But number two is, if indeed by putting it in that law, we've got the legislative branch of government saying they're the experts, there are the pieces that at times we've been questioned about and hopefully that will resolve those issues, and we won't be arguing about something now that is absolute fact and that's almost expert testimony from their expert about what the facts are.
Alright, last week was the highest week ever that we have had in this pandemic with 26,799 cases. We believe that what this shows is the impact of holiday gatherings. We can see in the numbers, and what was happening with our positivity rate before, that the steps we took to stop the third wave indeed did blunted, and in fact had our cases going down. But holiday gatherings appear to have significantly increased the spread of the Coronavirus, and we also have Dr. We have not identified it here in Kentucky but certainly, I wouldn't, at this point, the numbers as we’ve seen it, at least the last two weeks, it could be, what is happening here. Now when we get to today's report, still high, but it is less than the number of cases we had last week. If that's the case, I think it's more evidence that the bump we're seeing is from holiday gatherings and not just a continuation of that third wave. But again, I think the data shows that we stopped, but it's fragile. Every time we let our guards down, COVID finds a way we increase cases and people die, that's why we cannot let our guard down.
Of just as much concern as the number of cases that we saw this week is the positivity rate. Isn’t that startling? You’ve got to go back to May the 3rd higher positivity rate than we have right now and in fact if you go back to April 12th this is the second highest positivity rate of any month during this pandemic. Now is when it is at its most serious and where we will lose the most people, if we are not incredibly careful. And we still, if we do the right things, can stop this. We are not at capacity in our healthcare system, though again that could happen pretty quickly. This ought to be another wake up call, it ought to be a bright red warning light. It tells us that we all got to protect ourselves, we’ve got to wear those masks, we’ve got to do everything almost perfectly, under the guidance and the state rules to ensure that this thing doesn't get any further out of hand.
Speaking of that, hospital capacity, we update that every Monday. This week we have three areas in the red. That is with either inpatient beds, ICU beds, or ventilators over 80%. What you see here is in Eastern Kentucky we have our ICU beds at 80.9%. Region 10 is really concerning, because those ICU beds are at about 91.1% and region 4, 87% on ICU beds. As you can see, this is, I mean, it's concerning where some of these numbers are, but we still have room, especially if we use the other ICU beds in other regions. So we've got time, but it's got to have urgency, before we end up in a situation like we're seeing in California and we're starting to see in other places. Where, in Los Angeles County, they are not even putting somebody in an ambulance to take them to the hospital, if they don't think they're gonna make it, because they don't have a bed to put them in when they get there. I don't know if any of us out there can imagine that, because we've never seen it; but it should be of great concern for all of us.
Total tests conducted: 3,648,158 (PCR: 3,335,482, Serology: 103,800)
Positivity Rate: 12.35% - Our positivity rate, 12.35%, is down just a little bit from yesterday, but we have 119 red counties, that means that this virus is everywhere.
Hospitalizations ICU and ventilators, all relatively flat, which is a good thing. And in fact, down a little bit from last week, that says while we're in a dangerous place, we can by modeling type of good behaviors and not getting together again. Like many apparently did over the holidays, that we can ensure that there's the healthcare resources to ultimately help those that are sick.
Total hospitalized: 14,621
Currently hospitalized: 1,709
Total in ICU: 3,234
Currently in ICU: 381
On a ventilator: 207
Now sometimes those numbers are a little low on Monday and we get a better update on Tuesday.
Total recovered: 39,020
New deaths today: 21 - We continue to see higher death totals today with 21 new deaths. They include-- oh, and today 16 of the 21, the individuals were not in long term care. So anyone who feels a false sense of security by the really tragic numbers and percentages of our deaths dealing with long term care, this could reflect a change but certainly says just because you're not in long term care doesn't mean you're not at risk.
Total Deaths: 2,922
New deaths by county: 76 M Adair, 67 F Allen, 71 F Allen, 73 F Boone, 81 M Christian, 61 M Cumberland, 76 M Fleming, 88 F Graves, 82 M Graves, 68 F Hardin, 87 F Hardin, 86 M Hopkins, 88 M Meade, 57 M Nelson, 68 M Nelson, 69 M Nelson, 86 F Pulaski, 74 M Pulaski, 78 M Pulaski, 83 M Russell, 68 F Taylor
A lot of individuals in their 60s today.
Racial breakdown of all cases: 85% White, 8.6% Black, 4.9% Multiracial, 1.2% Asian, 0.2% American Indian, 0.1% Pacific Islander
Ethnicity breakdown of all cases: 93.8% Non-Hispanic, 6.2% Hispanic
Racial breakdown of all deaths: 87.4% White, 9.2% Black, 2.6% Multiracial, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% American Indian
Ethnicity breakdown of all deaths: 97.9% Non-Hispanic, 2.1% Hispanic
Long Term Care Facilities (PDF): 121 new residents and 132 new staff positive from yesterday, and 23 more deaths. This is why they are first in the vaccination schedule, and we continue to work through that.
Total facilities: 284
Total deaths: 1976
Active cases: 1175 residents, 745 staff
Total cases: 15658 residents, 11446 staff
On Mondays we're going to start just providing to the public what you can already find on https://kycovid19.ky/gov and that's the self-reports from schools from the week before. So this last week only a few school districts started back in person, with the majority of them considering whether they're going to do it this week.
K-12 Update (PDF): 1674 new students and 1062 new faculty/staff positive from yesterday. 3212 new quarantined students and 774 new quarantined staff.
Now on the dashboard, this is really important for parents trying to make an informed decision about whether their kids go in-person or not, you can look at your school district, you can look at your specific school. And thank you to the schools that are self-reporting and are doing so regularly. That, again, gives parents and others information that they need.
Sadly, there's one new COVID case and a veteran at Carl M Brashear Radcliffe Veterans Center. And I believe that we have lost another veteran
We'll have an update on vaccinations tomorrow, and I hope that we have some bigger news later in the week on that, that's not final enough to report on today.
Alright. So with that, I know I moved fast but lots have going on in Frankfort and in our country today. So let's open it up to questions, I've got a number of them here. Let me first address a number of questions that we've received about security at the state capitol, with the FBI coming out and suggesting that there's chatter about attacks on any or all 50 state capitals and another one for the US Capitol. We will not allow that to happen. We will protect these buildings, these grounds, and everyone in them, and we are ready to do whatever necessary, Kentucky State Police and others, to ensure the safety of everyone here. Now I'm not going to disclose our plans on how specifically we will do that because we are not going to give those that would commit domestic terror a game plan that they can try to plan around. But if those individuals are listening, first, shame on you, my goodness, you're not a patriot, you’re a thug and a terrorist. But we will not allow what happened at the US Capitol to happen here. Alright, Karen's from WUKY.
QUESTIONS
Good afternoon Governor, thank you. That was actually my first one so I appreciate that. Two things, one, how quickly could House Bill 191 get through and funds be available to Kentuckians? And could we get your reaction to the petition for impeachment? Thank you so much. -- House Bill 191 is so important. It takes funds that we have right now, one-time funds, the money is there, and immediately would make it available to small businesses: $220M in aid to businesses across Kentucky that have been harmed by this virus, and are going to continue to see hardships in the coming months. $20M to nonprofits that have struggled to keep their doors open. It provides $100M to pay off part of the UI loan that legislators are for. This is something we should all be for. I believe a Harvard poll, and I think my numbers are close, found that 86% of Republicans nationwide and 94% of Democrats say this should be done. And they're talking about the federal level, but this should be done, this is something that everybody's for. And if information about it not moving forward right now, which it hasn't yet, you know, would reach those that are probably mainly focusing on what's happened in Washington DC. I think you would hear calls across party, across parts of the state, that this bill must be passed. We've had to take the steps we've taken during COVID, but it doesn't mean that businesses haven't suffered and many businesses have suffered that aren't a part of any regulation at all. So this is a bill that needs to be done, and there's no reason that it shouldn't be done, and it should be done now. And if they would move on it could be made available immediately. If folks say that they have questions about it-- this is a bill that could change the way the money goes out too. So the power is in their hands to help people. They just need to be willing to do it. The impeachment petition has zero grounds. Shelby from WKYT.

New to genealogy and in over my head to explore whether or not my great aunt Dossie Lynch, the Blonde Bandit of the Ozarks, was an accomplice of the first-ever successful escape from Alcatraz Island, being an aid to Theodore Cole and Ralph Roe.
While exploring my genealogy, I stumbled upon, what I believe to pretty convincing evidence, that my great aunt Dossie aided in the first-ever successful escape from Alcatraz. Dossie Lou Lynch, born 1908 in Arkansas, is very likely the “Blond Bandit of the Ozarks." She married Carl Janaway, dubbed the "Will O' the Wisp" by Oklahoma and Arkansas lawmen, Janaway escaped prison three times. According to the book “Carl Janaway – The Smartest Bandit of the Cookson Hills,” he met and fell in love with Dossie Lynch in Clarksville Arkansas in 1929. They were married for 5 years. He said that she was 21 when they met and had a 5-year-old son named Roy. This would put her birth year around 1908 and matches the birth certificate of my aunt Dossie signed by Jesse Lynch and Isabelle Garland. My living relatives confirmed that they remember Roy. They have told me that Dossie and Roy moved to Inglewood California. Roy became a police officer after his military service. I haven’t found (but haven’t had the time to do a deep dig) for records to confirm this. I believe alias/name changes were done. I saw a family picture where she was identified as Dossie Augustus. I found an Ann Agustus Lynch in Texas that I think maybe her alias. The book goes on to says that Dossie “hung around Sallisaw Oklahoma (near Tahlequah), which was gangster “Charles Pretty Boy” Floyd’s hometown (which Carl Janaway was associated with). She also knew people in the adjacent community of Vian, a hangout for some very tough characters, such as the Bradshaws.” By herself, she robbed the Bank of Paris, Arkansas for $30,000 while Carl was in jail. He learned of it through the papers while he was in jail for an earlier robbery with Blackfoot, “a mean, Indian-looking guy with a scar on his face.” Some point after the robbery with Blackfoot, Carl was visiting his wife Dossie Lynch in Clarksville and was arrested after letting Blackfoot borrow the car that was used in the robbery, allowing lawman to confirm the location of the two. They were arrested and sent to Tucker Prison. Janeway reported that she left him for another man. https://oklahoman.com/article/2222648/former-outlaw-now-lives-quietly. On page 129 in the book on Carl Janaway’s life, he says that his former wife, Dossie Lynch tried to arrange an escape for him, and an inmate named Ted Cole while he was at Alcatraz. He did not want to go through with it because he was tired of running. He wanted to do his time and not be an outlaw anymore. (Carl Janaway was inmate #393 at Alcatraz, imprisoned for Kidnapping and the Dyer Act). According to Janaway, she subsequently helped inmates Ted Cole and Ralph Roe escape by meeting them in the thick fog of San Francisco in a motorized sailboat. Alcatraz Escape Theodore Cole (b. 1913) and Ralph Roe (b. 1906) were documents missing from Alcatraz on December 16, 1937. As man sources have reported, a dense fog swept through the San Francisco Bay, impeding marine traffic and reducing visibility on Alcatraz Island. Cole and Roe were working in a tire repair shop. A routine headcount at 12:50 p.m. showed all prisoners accounted for. At the next count, at 1:30 p.m., the two men were gone. They had cut two iron bars and three heavy glass panes of a window in the shop. Once through the window, they slipped down to the gate of a high wire fence, concealed by the fog. With a wrench taken from the tire shop, they forced the gate lock and dropped twenty feet to a beach. Their trail vanished at that point. This attempt occurred during a bad storm and the Bay's currents were especially fast and strong - most people believe Roe and Cole were swept out to sea. Officially, they are listed missing and presumed dead. Despite their remains were never found, officials have continued to maintain that they drowned and that Alcatraz's was an "escape-proof" prison. Police departments and the FBI continued to get tips and hear rumors of in the following days, months, and years of sightings of Theodore Cole and Ralph Roe. The Seminole Producer reported on June 24, 1939: (Seminole) Police Chief Jake Sims and the highway patrol that have linked Ralph Roe, Alcatraz fugitive to a Tecumseh hijacking, are taking their time, a check of the hijacking victims showed today. At Oklahoma City, Mrs. Lois Daniels reported this noon that neither she nor her daughter, Mrs. E.J. Well, had been asked to identify photographs of Roe. Mrs. Daniels saved $1,150 worth of rings by tossing them into the weeds while the hijacker took a $1,000 ring from Mrs. Well. Ed Talley of Oklahoma City who lost two $20 bills to the hijackers also said that he had not been asked to identify the pictures of Roe. In only two cases did the prisoners disappear without a trace: the Cole-Roe case in 1937 and a 1962 attempt which was the subject of the Clint Eastwood film, “Escape From Alcatraz.” Other outlaw stories: Could this be the same Dossie Lou? I read a story about how Cherokee Bill and one of Cook brothers (of the Cook Gang) were able to escape a gunfight because according to legend, their sister called Lou or Lundy, saddled their horses for them as they fought off the law. In Fort Hood, it said that the “Cook's step-sister Lou galloped into town and shot up the Depot with her six-shooter. Lou- known as attractive and given, like Belle Starr, to posturing with big horses and big pistols- was apparently trying to draw attention away from the game. At least Lou was pinched on a charge of harboring outlaws and Curtis Tyson and Chicken Lucas were sentenced to prison for their parts in the Red Fork attack.” https://www.historynet.com/the-cook-gang-plaguing-indian-territory.htm Dossie was a ward of the court (1920 census) and lived with Father Pius, the minister that read that prayed with Cherokee Bill before he was hung at Forth Smith. Her father, my great grandfather, William Lynch, after serving time in Leavenworth, married Emma Holifield and became the step-father of Cherokee Bill. I believe that she is the sister mentioned in these tales. I am very new to genealogical investigation and am learning there is a plethora of information that doesn't show up on ancestry.com and Google searches. This little genealogy project ended up being way more time consuming than I intended. Are there any hobbyist or writers that want to explore this story? (I'm also investigating if she was the biological child of William Clarke Quantrill and Sarah Catherine "Katie" Garland aka Tipton).
